Crane Rehab Pediatrics is proud to support mothers and babies in their pursuit of healthy and stress-free eating. Crane has speech therapists on our staff with specialties in infant feeding including a Certified Lactation Counselor.
When is infant therapy indicated?
Difficulty latching
Coughing during feeds
Feedings lasting longer than 30 minutes
Maternal pain during latch
Frequent break in seal during feeds
Audible breathing during feeds
Difficulty with weight gain
Excessive gagging
Inability to transition to purees or solid foods
Difficulty transitioning to age appropriate cup or straw
What can I expect during infant feeding therapy?
Assessment of current bottle system with recommendations on flow rate
Positioning and compensatory strategies to ensure safety of swallow
Developing home program of oral-motor exercises and suck training activities
Transition to breastfeeding or bottle as needed
Weighted feeds to determine transfer at the breast
Transition to spoon feeding and purees
Transition to finger-feeding with soft solids
